Play The Keys Computer Literacy Homework

Here is another VLACS assignment:

On the Play The Keys Blog, I learned that the owner of the blog (my brother Elijah) was able to open his Game Boy, take every thing out of it, and spray paint it all green, then put it back together.  He had a really cool video of that.  I also learned that he (by he I mean we) had a Thanks Giving that he (as in we) will never forget!  On the day before Thanks Giving his (as in his I mean our) power went out.  I also learned that he (we again) got to do a pumpkin carving thing with his friends, and they (we) all carved pumpkins!  I think that the owner of the blog (MY BROTHER) did a really good job!

Things I Have Learned in Computer Literacy

Here are some things I have learned in my Computer Literacy course that I take with VLACS.

I've learned how to use OpenOffice.org Calc.  In Calc I learned how to make graphs and charts.

I've also learned how to use OpenOffice.org Inpress.  In Impress I learned how to make slide shows, and I think that was my favorite part of the course.

I even learned how to cite sources!  Citing sources is hard, but it was probably this best thing I learned in the course.

John D. Rockefeller Paper

Logan B.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     12/10/14 – 12/16/14

John D. Rockefeller

John D. Rockefeller was born on July 8th, 1839, and died on May 23rd, 1937.  His first personal goals were to own over  $100,000 dollars, and to live up to 100.  He met his first goal, but was 2 years, 2 weeks short of his second.  (7).  He was the first American with more than 1 billion dollars, and owned 1.5% of  the national economy.  Although his father, William “Big Bill” Avery Rockefeller tried to find ways to avoid having a steady job, but his son John worked as hard as he could, when he could, to earn money.  He didn’t just own a lot of money, but he also gave over half a billion dollars to the poor, and was known as the greatest philanthropist in his time.

When John D. Rockefeller was a kid, he made money by selling candy, raising chickens,  and doing jobs for his neighbors.  His dad, “Big Bill” was always thinking of plans and pranks to try to stay out of work, while his son John, was trying to do work to get money.  When John was 14, his family moved to Cleveland, Ohio, were John attended High School, and studied bookkeeping at a commercial college. (1).  When the Rockefeller’s friends came over, they would see stacks of money at his house.  Ones, twos, threes (There were three dollar bills back then), fives, tens, twenties, and even fifties were all wrapped together like a bundle of wood.  The guests would see this, because “Big Bill” never used a bank, because he did not trust banks.   Sometimes “Big Bill” would leave for a long time, and come back with these rolls of money.  Big Bill would always waste money, and did not care about saving it.  However, John’s mom, Eliza Rockefeller was very thrifty, and frugal, and taught John not to waste money. (4).

When John D. Rockefeller was 16, he got his first job as an assistant bookkeeper.  He worked for long hours, but was happy with his job.  He was very good at calculating transportation costs.  He made $50 every 3 months (which was a lot in 1855), and donated 6% to charity.  Later on, he donated 10% of his earnings.  Rockefeller chose to establish a commission business with a partner  named Maurice B. Clark.  Rockefeller was making good money, and he and Maurice B. Clark decided to open an oil refinery in 1863, calling the company, “Andrews, Clark & Company.”  (2).

John D. Rockefeller made billions of dollars from his oil company called The Standard Oil Company.  He was the first American with over $1,000,000,000 (1 billion) dollars, and owned more than 1.5% of the national economy!  In his life time, he gave more than $500 million dollars to charity!  He gave his money to various charities, but he gave the most money to the church.  (3).  John Rockefeller was always donating.  He always had the verse from 1 Peter “Charity shall cover a multitude of sins” on his mind.  In 1882, John was giving $65,000 a year, and a decade later he was giving $1.5 million dollars away to charity each year.  (4).

John D. Rockefeller had several buildings named after him or founded by him.  One of the most famous is in NYC, called Rockefeller Center.  The Rockefeller Center is so popular, Lego even made a Lego set about it!  (5).  John D. Rockefeller founded something called The Rockefeller University.  The Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research (The Rockefeller University) was the first institution in the United States devoted to only using biomedical research to understand the basic causes of disease.  The Rockefeller’s continued their legacy of giving with the next Rockefeller generations, by buying large parcels of land to be preserved as National Parks for recreation.   In 1972, Congress dedicated a 24,000-acre piece of land to John D. Rockefeller, Jr., to make a Memorial Parkway, to show case the Rockefeller family’s generosity.  One of the largest land conservation efforts made by the Rockefeller family was Acadia National Park, but they also conserved land in Grand Teton, Acadia, Great Smoky Mountains, and the Virgin Islands.  (6).

In conclusion, John D. Rockefeller Sr. was one of the greatest philanthropists that lived.  John D. Rockefeller had donated 500 million dollars in the years 1839 – 1937!  If John D. Rockefeller were alive today, and he had donated 500 million dollars of 1839 money, he would have donated about 9.5 billion dollars!  Despite not having a dad with a steady job, he was impacted  by his mother, and his legacy of generosity has been passed on to the next generation of Rockefellers.  If John D. Rockefeller did not donate so much, the world might be a different place today.

I Programmed This in HTML

Programming
  • Programming

  • I know how to code mostly Java Script, but I also know HTML, and a little bit of something called Scratch.

  • Coding is my favorite subject. Even though I am homeschooled, it is still something I can do. It is one of my favorite parts of my day.

  • It is hardest to code Java Script, but when I am done coding Java Script, I am proud. For Scratch, it fells like I am just moving little boxes with info in them to the left side of the screen. For HTML, it feels like I am just stealing other videos and pictures, and putting them into my programs.

  • I think the best place to learn how to code is Khan Academy. It is fun, easy, and, like I said before, my favorite subject.
  • I am Logan1141, and I approve this message.

I CAN'T WAIT!  My dad is coming home from a 4 or 5 day work trip!!!  I miss him so much!  He has been away for this long before, maybe longer, but this time has felt like for ever!  He is going to be here in an hour or two . . .  SO . . .  I CAN NOT WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIT!

Cats of The Guild Parts 2 and 3

    Chapter 5

Leaf Stripe said to the guild “Cats of Light Guild, we have found a new cat to join our guild!”  The other cats were murmuring between each other.  Leaf Stripe said “He was a human pet, but he wants to . . .” Another cat interrupted her by shouting “NO!  There is NO WAY I will live with that STUPID house cat!  HE WASN’T EVEN CLAN BORN!” Leaf Stripe continued “He wants to join our guild.  I know it might be weird to live with a house cat . . .”  “HEY!” Fluffy said,  Leaf Stripe gave him a glance, then looked back at the guild.  “If he joins our guild, he must no longer be called Fluffy.  We shall now call him . . .  Blaze Paw!”’

    Chapter 6

Blaze Paw was being congratulated when the cat Titan Foot came up to him.  Titan Foot said “Hey housecat!  You will NEVER be part of my guild!  Other cats may say you are in the guild, but you will not last a DAY out here!”  Gray Stone said “I agree.  You will NEVER EVER be part of Light Guild!”  “HEY!  Stop being mean JERKS!  Welcome him to the Guild and leave him alone!”  said Black Paw.  “PFF! Or what Black Paw?”  said Gray Stone.  “I agree with Black Paw!  Stop being mean!”  said Cinder Heart.  “Uh . . . “ said Blaze Paw, “I don’t know about this.”  “Come on!” said Black Paw, “White Foot will be your mentor.  He is also my mentor, so she will train both of us together.”  Fluffy was unsure, but he said “Uh . . .  I guess that is okay . . .”

    Chapter 7

Blaze Paw was in the training area 7 moons (days) later.   Black Paw was leaping at Blaze Paw, and Blaze Paw got flung backwards.  "WO Black Paw!" said Blaze Paw.  Black Paw took another swing at Blaze Paw, but Blaze Paw ducked it, swung at Black Paw, and Black Paw flew backwards into the river.  White Foot said to Blaze Paw and Black Paw, "Good Job!  Blaze Paw, you are one of the best apprentices yet!  Were did you learn all this?"  Blaze Paw replied "Umm . . .  I do not know, I just . . .  I do not know . . ."  Black Paw said "Ouch!  That hurt . . ."  "Sorry" said Blaze Paw.  "That is okay, but I feel, I feel, I feel,  OUCH!  Something is in the river!!!"  White Foot said "Hmm . . ." With a puur of laughter, and said "It is just a stick in the river . . ."  Blaze Paw said "Are you sure you are okay?  You freaked out about a stick . . ."  "ZIP IT HAPPY MEAL!" said Black Paw.  He said "Lier!  That is no stick!"  "What is it?!"  "A TWIG!!!" said Black Paw.  All the cats started laughing, and walked back to camp.

    Chapter 8

"There is going to be a meeting of the guilds tomorrow!  We are going to meet with all the guilds, and I must choose 2 or 3 apprentices to come with us." said Leaf Stripe, the leader of Light Guild.  "How many Guilds are there?"  asked Blaze Paw.  "There are thousands, but we only meet with the other 5, Dark Guild, Fire Guild, Storm Guild, Ice Guild, and Earth Guild."  said Black Paw.  "The Apprentices coming with us will be . . .  BLAZE PAW and BLACK PAW!" said Leaf Stripe.

    To Be Continued . . .

    Radioactive

This is how the song "Radioactive" makes me feel.  I wrote a short paper about it.  I hope you like it!

    Radioactive

                            By, Logan                                                                     10-27-14

The song “Radioactive” by Imagine Dragons is my favorite song.  It makes me want to get up and Skype my friend Eli, who also loves “Radioactive,” and introduced me to the song.  It makes me want to have fun, and start singing, dancing, jumping around, and having a blast.  The song “Radioactive” also makes me feel radioactive because it makes me feel powerful.

Cats Of The Guild Parts 1 and 2

Here is my book I started and never finished.  If you never caught part one, I am showing it again.  Here it is, ENJOY!

P.S. You can tell that part 1 ends at chapter 4, and part 2 starts at chapter 5.

      The Cats Of The Guilds

    Prologue
Fluffy was a very strange cat.  He loved the wilderness but was never allowed to go into the forest.  He didn’t know that he was about to join a guild and become an apprentice.  He and his friend Black Paw would go on many adventures and battle in many epic battles.

    Part 1
    Chapter 1
Fluffy, was a house cat, but he always wondered what is was like in the outside world. He would sometimes go outside and play with the other cats, but he was never allowed in the forest.  When he was with his friend Speckle, outside playing, he saw a mouse in the forest.  He said that he wanted to catch the mouse so badly, but Speckle told him not to. Then, Fluffy did it.  He ran into the forest and chased the mouse way too deep into the forest.  When he finally caught the mouse, He was lost in the deep, dark forest.  He was lonely, tired, sad, and mostly scared.  He wished he had listened to Speckle.
    Chapter 2
Crack! Fluffy heard some animal snap a twig.  It was raining in the forest, and Fluffy hates the rain.  He saw another cat peeking through the leaves and the cat was about Fluffy’s size.  The other cat tackled Fluffy, but Fluffy fought back.  Fluffy dodged a swing at his left, then one from his right, but he got scratched straight down his nose.  He was bleeding, but he managed to swing at the other cat.  He swung left and right and down the middle, but the other cat was to good. Fluffy finally knocked down the other cat and tackled the other cat.  Fluffy won the battle, but then three other cats twice his size ran up and one tackled Fluffy.
    Chapter 3
Fluffy scrambled to his paws but got knocked back down again.  The leader said “Stop beating at the cat, he could be helpful to our guild.  He is better than Black Paw, and could be an apprentice.” “What?!” screeched a black tom-cat,  “a stupid pet?  One of the human pets?!” “SILENCE!”  The leader shouted at the black cat. “I am Leaf Stripe, leader of the guild of light.  The black tom is Gray Stone, and the other white cat over there is White Foot,  “What is your name?”  The leader said.  Fluffy said “I a-am, Fluff-Fluffy.”  The leader asked,  “Would you like to join our Guild?”

    Chapter 4

“Uh… I don’t know.”  Fluffy said.  “We need way more apprentices, and you are a good warrior.” The younger cat Black Paw said.  “Ok, I guess I could join.”  Fluffy said.  “Nice to meet you, and welcome to our guild.” Said White Foot.  As they were all walking back to camp, they caught a few mice to share with the rest of the guild.  When Fluffy saw the camp he was amazed!  The walls were made of thorn bushes, and on the inside there were five dens.  The nursery was made of ferns, The apprentice den was also made of ferns, and had a moss floor. The leader den was made of a big rock with a crack down the middle,  and the warriors’ den was like the same as the apprentice den. The medic’s den was made of a small rock with a crack down the middle, with ferns covering the entrance.  Fluffy wondered what would happen next.
